Approach
You have a vision. As your partners, we’re here to transform that vision into reality. Our people-first approach is centred on listening and understanding you. We have a proven 5-step approach to delivering success:
Discover - we listen to you and your stakeholders to better understand your needs, capacities, goals and challenges.
Define - our team assesses where you are at, uncovers opportunities you may not have thought of, and recommend a unique pathway forward, tailored to your organization.
Develop - we begin solutioning by developing a strategy and roadmap along with all supporting documentation and processes your team and project require.
Discuss - we then shift from strategy to planning and project execution. We discuss the resources needed to move forward, gather your feedback, and collaborate with you on an implementation or project management plan.
Deliver - Once you are ready to move forward, we can also be your partners in project execution. We can help you with project management and coordinate project and program development, funding proposals, design development, pre-con and construction management, benchmarking and performance management.

Recent Projects
AWITGATI LONGHOUSE & CULTURAL CENTRE
Under One Sky Friendship Centre (UOS) operates programs for urban Indigenous peoples in the Fredericton region. The ability to meet demand for new programs was limited by the size of its offices - a repurposed house in a commercial area. In 2021, Mahallam was engaged to secure new operating space. The process started with a planning session to understand the needs, resources, and aspirations of UOS.
Inspired by the vision of the leadership team and several Elders, Mahallam supported development of a strategy for a new build of a cultural centre. Within 18 months, on behalf of UOS, Mahallam successfully acquired and assembled an entire city block of prime land for the centre, collaborated with stakeholders and engaged architects to develop designs and cost estimates, and prepared a feasibility study, business plan, and multiple funding proposals that resulted in over $25M in external funding secured.
Mahallam is currently providing development management services, having led the RFP process for Design Services and Construction Management, and coordinated stakeholder engagement, government relations, design development and construction for the centre.
The Awitgati Longhouse & Cultural Centre is an iconic $27M net-zero community centre. It will celebrate and promote Indigenous knowledge and culture - from health and wellness to education to arts and culture to events and community spaces. The centre is scheduled to open in 2026 and will provide over 40 culturally informed programs and services that celebrate and promote Indigenous culture, knowledge, and traditions.

TURNING LEAF HEALING LODGE
Kolopehtuwan Mip (Turning Leaf Foundation) had purchased 62 acres of land with the aim of developing a healing lodge for Indigenous men. The goal was to develop a residence and provide land-based programs where Indigenous men previously involved with the justice system can access culturally appropriate supports and promote Indigenous cultural practices and healing.
Mahallam was engaged to collaborate with Elders and stakeholders to develop an operating model, prepare funding proposals, manage design development and all pre-construction work.
Situated on the banks of the Wolastoq River with water access, fields, and forest, yet close to amenities, the Healing Lodge will offer unique and critical services for Indigenous men in New Brunswick.

Fund Development & Grant Proposals
the Mahallam team has written grant proposals that have been awarded over $29M in funding in the past 4 years, with an >80% success rate. These funds have supported capital campaigns, operating programs, reserach projects, business development, and capacity building initiatives. Our clients have ranged from local sports groups to nonprofits to small businesses with funds secured ranging from $5,000 to $18.6M.
We have developed deep expertise, key insights, and a proprietary system for funding proposals. Good grant and proposal writing is more than just a well written request - it requires strategy and a compelling case for support. Often this requires supporting or technical documentation. We work with teams to pull these together and put your best proposal forward.
In recent years our team members have successfully secured funds for clients in partnership with the following funders: Infrastructure Canada, Heritage Canada, CMHC, Indigenous Services Canada, Employment and Social Development Canada, Reaching Home, ACOA, SSHRC, CIHR, Business Development agencies, Provincial and Municipal Agencies, NAFC, Community Foundations.
Sustainability Reporting in Qatar, UAE, Saudi, Bahrain
Mahallam was engaged to support sustainability initiatives for several high value companies, including state enterprises and publicly held corporations, in Qatar and across the GCC. Mahallam’s role included baseline assessments, data collection across organizational structures in cross-cultural environments, benchmarking and target setting, ESG reporting, sustainability frameworks, strategies, and roadmaps, corporate communications, and business cases. Clients include leading players in the energy, metals, commercial real estate, urban development, and pharmaceuticals sectors.
As a result of this work, clients improved their bottom line, gained access to broader investor capital due to improved ESG performance, reduced their carbon footprints and material usage, improved working conditions and safety, provided broader community benefits, improved governance and mitigated governance related risks, all in conformance with international standards and best practices.
